Get Ready for Camp with Stuck on You

So you’ve spent ages trawling through camp websites and finally signed your child up for one, now the camp packing list has arrived and you’ve got to get organized!

After spending years kitting kids out for summer camp, we think we know a thing or two about it. And you’re in luck because we feel like sharing!

Tips for Happy Campers (and Happy Camper’s Parents!)

You’ve probably heard it again and again but here we go; involve your child in packing. Not only will it help you out, but it will give your child a chance to practice all that independence they’re bound to gain on camp. Last but not least, packing their things puts the responsibility on the child. If they packed it to go to camp, they should be packing the same gear all up again to return home. But packing an inventory list in their trunk will give them some extra help to remember too!

While we’re on the subject of lists-follow them! And not just this one, but the camp packing list. They wrote everything on there for a reason, and most likely left a lot of items off for a reason (it may not be allowed!)

Choose a bag or trunk that they can carry, roll or drag. While they need everything on the list-they also need to be able to move it! And make sure to pack a bag for the trip into camp, whether it be bus or car, they’ll love having snacks to eat, activities to do or a journal to write in.

Label everything!

This is another tip we repeat often, here's three main reasons.

  1. If it’s a sleepaway camp, chances are that you’re sending a lot of gear with them. And if you want to see any of it again, labeling is key! It stops it from ending up in Lost and Found on Day 1 or mixed up in laundry. This means your child isn’t without their items for the rest of camp, and it saves you money when you send them off next year with the same stuff.
  2. In a cabin with around 10 tween or teen campers there’s bound to be a few fights over sharing a space for so long. To prevent arguments between bunkmates over the same sweater-label it! Stuck On You Labels- saving friendships since ’95.
  3. Labels can be personalized and chosen by your child. This way they will have more responsibility over their items, and it gives them a chance to get excited about camp instead of nervous.
  • Last tip, send some stationery with them so that they have the chance to write down their precious memories in a journal, or write them on a postcard and send it to you! Just remember to write your address on the envelopes and stamp them before they leave.
